What's up with Tom Delonge's lyrics?

According to interviews he's been dating his wife Jennifer since 1996 but on a few occasions he has talked about new love in his lyrics. He also talked about someone named Holly and another named Sherry in his lyrics. I'm just confused. If anyone knows please help me out.
