Are disposable petri dishes, when closed, sanitary when colonies of bacteria are present?

I cultured some E.Coli on a couple of disposable petri dishes, and I left them to incubate on a shelf in my bedroom. Of course the dishes are closed and I never opened them when growth occured. However, is it safe to leave a few plates in my bedroom with bacteria, even when they are closed?
